Transitioning to a New EMR: A Case Study

Efficient technology is crucial for you and your patients. Cubhub's pediatric EMR alleviates common obstacles and improves daily operations.

One of the main reasons clients choose not to move forward with a new EMR software is the expected cost and risk associated with transitioning from their current system. I get it. When I owned and operated my own pediatric home healthcare business I experienced this pain firsthand. In fact, I once stopped a new software onboarding process within the first week. I ate the cost to terminate the contract after realizing they didn’t do one of the fundamental things they had promised. And since most systems do basically the same thing (Medicare Home Health with workarounds for everything else), it’s difficult to see the upside of making the switch.

Change is most commonly uncomfortable, but it is necessary to remain current, discover better processes, and continue to grow. This is why it is crucial to find the best EMR for your practice and embrace new technology.

Stay ahead, competitive, and innovative

At Cubhub, what we often see from the most dynamic, fastest-growing enterprise-level clients is the question: “Can we afford NOT to make changes to get or stay ahead?” We love to be part of this kind of thinking!

Right now we are in the process of onboarding a large regional pediatric home healthcare company with a new electronic nursing documentation software. They have thousands of patients and staff. They have systems that have been tried and true for years, and spreadsheets—oh my, do they have spreadsheets. They also have an incredibly strong leadership team and a visionary founder and owner. They chose Cubhub because, frankly, they already know how to excel in the marketplace today. They want to get ahead of what’s coming.

Keep what works, grow where there’s room

First, the company wanted to reduce the burden of manually entering data from the old legacy EMR into Cubhub. We partnered with a 3rd party firm, Nicular, to extract massive amounts of data and work with our team to map it to the corresponding fields in Cubhub. Next, we engaged every department in the company, explored their current processes, and found opportunities to improve and streamline their workflows. Within a few weeks, we had already deployed improvements that have helped enable a seamless transition. And of course, we eliminated scores of spreadsheets from their workflows because Cubhub allows you to do everything (tracking, communicating, faxing, data visualization, etc.) within the system.

Perhaps the most exciting development has been our work with data. This client truly understands that without accurate, meaningful data companies are going to be left behind. Cubhub was built around granular data capture, so we stay away from blocks of text and give everyone more opportunities to capture specific things that can be aggregated. I can’t wait to work with them to leverage this data into Value-Based Agreements with payors.

Work with pediatric home care experts

This process allowed us to see firsthand that if a team is open to change, it’s easy to make processes more efficient, create a better experience for users, and put businesses in a better position for the data-driven future of home healthcare. It has also revealed just how innovative and dedicated our own Cubhub team can be.

Working with big, sophisticated companies allows us to apply these benefits to all the smaller companies that aren’t quite at the same level yet. We are doing exciting things with all of our partners, and we are focused on providing the best software to enable the best care for patients.
