3 Things Your Pediatric EMR Should Deliver

Learn how to choose an EMR System and see how Cubhub improves the way you do pediatric home care.

This title is a bit misleading, since your software wasn’t built for pediatrics. It was designed for Medicare home health, but you already knew that. You get daily reminders as you navigate the endless icons, dashboards, workflows, and nomenclature that have little or nothing to do with your actual business.

Obviously we at CubHub think you should choose an emr system that was built for what you do, but not everyone likes efficiency and focus… we get it. So what should you expect from your home care software? You’ve been using the same system for so long you may not even know how much technology has changed!

EMR Software: 3 Benefits You Should Be Receiving

 #3 - Mobile is King

For PDN companies, buying a device for every nurse is a major expense. Moving from paper should save you money on printing, collection, validation, storage, etc. Instead, many companies have found their costs rise as the devices that were sold as ‘free’ with their pediatric EMR end up costing thousands in data charges and fees.

A mobile app for private duty nursing is key, as it allows most (over 80% adoption in most companies) nurses to use the smartphone or tablet they already have with them to complete their charting. A major plus is that nurses much prefer to use their own IOS or Android device, and it becomes a recruiting tool to give them the option of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). Of course any mobile caregiver app must meet EVV requirements. If your state doesn’t force you to submit EVV data now, be aware that it is probably coming at some point. Be ready.

 #2 - Keep it Simple

We see many companies using expensive pediatric software to manage simple tasks that their primary EMR/Management system should handle. You don’t need Salesforce to manage your marketers, or an Applicant Tracking System for hiring, or a bloated HR suite for what you need to do to stay compliant and keep your clinicians happy. What you need are simple, integrated tracking and workflows that manage these things inside your primary home health system. Most companies should be able to do everything they need by connecting their EMR/management system to their payroll software. Anything more cuts into your already paper-thin margins.

 #1 - Choose a Data-Driven EMR

Right now your MCOs are talking to forward-thinking companies about data. Are you in those meetings? If the answer is ‘No’ does that concern you? It should. Most states and their managed care providers know that they have to move toward value-based pricing to meet federal requirements and ever-tightening budgets. But they have no idea how to do it.

If you are smart, you will help define the way to show quality and outcomes by providing relevant data about patient populations. Medicare outcomes and QAPI metrics won’t do, as they do not capture what keeps kids moving along their care continuum. You will have to dig deeper, and your pediatric home health software should guide you, rather than making you beg for custom reports to be added.

So, is your home health software doing all it can to help you grow your business? These 3 things are just a few of the benefits you should be receiving, but if you are not you should check out Cubhub and sign up for a demo of our pediatric EMR below. Give us an hour to show you how we can retool your company for the future!
